This exactly. I like nice things and I look after them well. I used to use my good mugs for tradespeople, but then they would take them to the van and several times I never saw them again. I always offer drinks and biscuits, I even used to make lunch for the plumber we had here for several weeks as he never had any himself.
On the flip side of the coin, I think it's only good manners to return the mug and say thanks.

When my thick blue Rainforest Cafe mug lost it's handle I stuck it back on and now it is used to hold small kitchen utensils.

You can't get the thick ones anymore.

As a footnote I would add that it fell off in the dishwasher not in the hand of a manual labourer. So whilst this isn't really relevant to this thread it is a useful tip for recycling broken Disney mugs and cups.

I have my lovely Disney mugs, the
we have guest mugs, then the old mugs we keep for any workmen, then if they accidentally break I'm not worried.

Oh Pinchy my man, I beg to differ

Pinch, do you think I should be protecting my, acquired onboard whilst in the posh seats, Virgin Atlantic mugs from gadgey's carrying out works on our home? Hmm, Virgin might want them back for the LHR aviation museum.

We like our gadgey mate's who work on our home - mi casa es su casa, sharing a brew in a mug, sip for them, sip for me...

I don't know about Virgin Atlantic mugs. I think I have a few of their cruet sets in my collection and an unopened toothpaste. I keep them in a big box in the loft. Only the Concorde clobber gets put out so I can show off. Visitors say "Oooo you went on Concorde and you look so young as well".

Tradespeople aren't allowed in that room.

Like you, I have beloved Le Creuset mugs, the multi coloured set. My neighbours were getting their drive monoblocked, the guys were there all week, and the neighbours work, so I duly obliged to make them their cups of tea. Even provided choccy bickies. But I gave them my Le Creuset mugs. They always returned them, and it got to the point they all had their favourite coloured one

My husband is a plumber and he loves it when the customer offers him a cup of tea, so I have no issue with offering cuppas to workies. I used to have a shelf in my cupboard of old mugs, usually from builder's merchants, that we used to use for outside or for tradesmen, but those days are gone. I try not to treat even my nice things too preciously.

Trades people are richer and posher than me so I keep a couple of bone China mugs in the cupboard just incase they don’t like the cheap ones we common people drink out of😂

We have just had 5 tradesman in for a week, this actually was a topic of debate due to covid etc.
I ended up buying sleeves of coffee cups and lids from asda think they were £1.75 for ten, ( think just like a small Costa takeaway cup), did the job fine and no washing up for us, to be honest the workies thought they were being spoiled lol and kept there brew warmer for longer.
