Can anyone translate a brain MRI?

Hi,

I know this is a big ask but I have a MRI report for my mum's brain scan & I cannot understand a lot of it.

Can anyone help? I can photograph the section of the letter with no personal info of course.

Thanks 😊

Update - thanks everyone. A lovely Dibbers was able to help so I think I now have all I need.

Have you had appt for the results?

I hope you get an appointment for results soon.

DD has had many MRIs of her brain, since she was 1. I hope your mum is ok. X

I had many spinal MRI's and would google the phrase that I didn't understand to get one that I did.
I know Dr Google is not good but for specific phrases I found it helped.
Good luck.

Sadly no appointments. She has dementia just trying to make sense of last year's MRI. The doctor briefly summarised it over the phone but I'd like to understand more.

Hope your DD is now OK.

Thanks. I have tried that but there are so many medical terms. I see a lot of spine & knee MRIs for work & can usually understand but this is beyond me & Dr Google is helping much 😞

Thanks, DD will probably have them 6m- yearly for life - thankfully she is used to them.

I’m sure if you contact GP again they can explain again. X if they cannot then maybe ask for a radiologist at the hospital where scan was undertaken for their opinion, or maybe her consultant. Perhaps the GP didnt fully understand the scan themselves.

They are a bit scary but as you say she is used to them. At least she's being kept a close eye on.

The GP said they were clear so he's no help, as they aren't. With covid we aren't getting much help to be honest hence why I am asking here 😊

Most radiology reports reports contain loads of information that's not relevant to the clinical issue and is essentially a radiologist showing that the looked at everything in these days of litigation, what I would not give to have a now retired radiologist who could do a report with the words "normal CT head"... anyway, I would concentrate on the conclusions section as that will essentially answer the clinical question that was asked when the person requested the MRI and any major incidental findings.

Thanks, yes just something that said normal would be great. Sadly we don't have the full report just part of it in a letter & no conclusions.

Was it the GP who requested the scan or a consultant? If a hospital consultant then, I would suggest contacting the PAL’s team at the hospital and ask them to help in getting the report explained. If it was the GP, then I would suggest writing and explaining which bits you don’t understand and ask them to explain.
