The first time we went as a family to a Florida my dd sat on my lap, the stewardess checked the oxygen mask for me and my daughter. My son who was 6 then piped up he needed oxygen because he couldn’t breathe, we were on the tarmac and hadn’t even moved!

The time we were dining in Akershus for a character breakfast, we were on the free dining plan so felt it was okay to do this without kids! Two amusing incidents happened in one visit ……
DH has always had a bit of a thing for Ariel, she comes round to our table to greet us like she did with all the tables, and he went into full-on stalker mode - "Ooh, you're my favourite!" etc. Her face was an absolute picture - she went slightly wide-eyed, stared at him for a bit without saying anything, garbled something about dingle-hoppers, and made a hasty exit. I was in tears of laughter! A bit later on, and suddenly a squirrel dashes into the restaurant. Cue shrieks from some over-dramatic people, and then we started shouting out, "Snow! Snow White! We need you!" It was really funny, others joined in and someone managed to chase him back out again. Poor little fella, he was probably only after some Mickey waffles! This reminds me, we had another encounter with a squirrel. We were in Universal a few years ago, DH was hot and grumpy and I bought him an ice-cream as I thought that would help. However, the temperature was really high and this ice-cream started to melt and drip onto his shoes. He was getting more grumpy by the minute, and suddenly a squirrel dashes across the pavement, sits on his one foot, and starts licking ice-cream off his shoe! He's hopping about now trying to dislodge the squirrel and thinking he is going to get bitten, hot and snarly, with chocolate ice-cream dripping down his arm - I was in hysterics, bad wife!

These are all great fun. We've had some laughter at DH expense while on holiday in the USA. For some reason Americans struggle to understand what he is saying. He doesn't have a strong accent, we live in Kent so maybe a slight estuary twang but seriously just bog standard English. Anyway, here's an example.
We are in a restaurant and the server comes over to ask what we want to drink. We all say our drinks and when it comes to DH he says "I'll just have some water", well she didn't understand what he meant. She asks him to repeat it so he does, she still doesn't know what he means. He says "you know a glass of water, from a tap". Meanwhile me and the kids are literally wetting ourselves trying not to laugh. Poor server looks at the rest of us and I say "he would like a glass of water" so she says "oh water, i didn't know what he wanted". Believe it or not it's happened more than once and we still take the Mickey out of him that no one can understand him when we are abroad. Reading it back doesn't sound so funny, but as far as family in jokes go we all find it hilarious and love it when it comes to ordering food as we know the servers are going to have difficulty with his order.

On my honeymoon my wife went to bed early and I had a few drinks too many and ended up spending the night with the barmaid in the hotel completely forgetting that I was married.
Fortunately that never happened again before my first wife divorced me a few months later. |

In Bradenton we had flooding and a hurricane, driving through flooded water we lost power on the car and dh managed to get us going. The sat nav tried sending us down a dark closed off flooded road when our road was just ahead. We always talk about when the sat nav tried to kill us! It was a bit scary but we laugh about it now.

We went to visit a Frigate bird colony on an island called Barbuda in the Caribbean. Barbuda is sparsely inhabited and has an enourmous lagoon you have to cross by boat to get to the birds.
We found an elderly man with a fairly beat up boat (with no life saving equipment we realised later). As we were about to leave a young child about 5 climbed into the boat and the old guy muttered that he was his grandson. As we set out across the 5 miles of lagoon a storm started coming in. After about 10 mins we realised the child was directing the old man where to go, he was almost blind and had no idea which direction to go in. The waves got bigger and bigger, the rain started pounding down, there was no shelter and no way we could save ourselves. Luckily the blind old man turned the boat around and the yound child picked the way back to the small harbour which we could not see and had no idea where it was. We lived to tell the tale. |
