Be aware, Avanti Resort taking payment from TC guests-UPDATE PAGE 5

I have just read on Facebook of people having money taken from their cards for accommodation booked through Thomas Cook. These people returned to the UK over the last couple of weeks. I know that tour operators don’t pay for the accommodation until 60 to 90 days after the stay. The CAA have already said that the hotels will be paid. This post is to warn everyone, not to argue over the rights or wrongs of it.

I’ve seen lots of reports too. Avanti Palm, Clarion and Enclave Suites also. People being locked out of rooms until they pay and people’s cards being charged who are already home in the last few weeks.

Might be worth people speaking to their banks if they have been charged and are already home.

I think we need to name and shame them. They know they'll get money so this is terrible behaviour.

We are in clarion maingate. We were locked out of room yesterday but let us back in when we confirmed we were on a package. They said they have been paid so we were a bit perplexed.
Have checked my cc and nothing charged as yet

My niece and her boyfriend were locked out of the Avanti, until they proved they were covered with ATOL. Apparently if you couldn’t prove it, they weren’t letting you back into your room unless you paid for the room.

Actually they won't. For anyone staying after the collapse the booking is covered by ATOL (or the other one, I forget).

ATOL doesn't cover anything prior to the company collapsing...

For holidays already taken in the last few weeks, TC hasn't paid these yet as they are due 60 days after invoice. So the hotel is waiting for payment (which will never come or will be pennies in the pound).

When you next check in, look carefully at what you sign, it specifically says on almost all hotel check in systems that if the company due to pay your bill doesn't you give the hotel authority to charge you for it.

It's on the BBC website somewhere as well today...

Why is it shocking, the hotel doesn't know who is and who isn't covered by ATOL (that's between you and ATOL) so they are perfectly within their rights to check they will get paid before providing the service

whoa! i didn't know that. It seems that companies have you by the short and curls whatever. I wonder why the hotels allow the payment to be made after the trip? the travel companies have the money 2-3 months before!
