Tipping on a wishes fireworks cruise
Doing this in a couple of weeks and really don't know what an appropriate amount to tip the 'captain' would be. The cost is $318. Do I tip 20% or just like $20 or what?! Any opinions and suggestions would be most welcome!

I can't remember how much our Illuminations cruise cost back in 2006 but I can remember I tipped $20.

There have been posts on this before but I can't remember seeing a definitive answer (we have one booked too). I think some people don't tip at all as apparently it's not a 'tippable' position?!
I might go for $30 which is almost 10% - I know it isn't a lot - not sure really! I think $60 is a bit much... I think it also depends on the Captain - some are meant to be amazing and really go out of their way, some not so much... ! |

Did the captain seem happy with $20? It's such a tricky one, I don't want to offend but I don't want to over tip either! Did that last time when someone from OKW took us to Vineland Avenue outlets... We tipped him $40 and he was overwhelmed! When we got the can back it cost $16, no wonder! Haha

I think I am going to go between $20-30 depending on how attentive and accommodating the captain is!

When we did it the captain refused a tip as he said it wasn't a tipable position

we have done this and the illuminations cruise a few times and always tip 20% so about $70 - all the captains we have had have always accepted the tip no issue and tbh I think they expect it

Just done some more research on this. On the 'Disney parks moms panel' site which I think is officially part of Disney, somebody asked this question. The answer was that this isn't a tippable position and tips are not required or expected and not to be surprised if your tip is declined. It also suggested a heartfelt thank you and a letter to Disney if you receive good service from the captain!
Think I'll still tip but probably only $20 now. If I got a $20 tip for an hours work if be more than happy! |
