It says why in the article.

Admittedly, it’s possible there may be more to it than it being “the optimal time to transition to a new CEO”. But the official statement is that he felt the time was right to step aside and focus more on the creative side of Disney.

I forgot about that one. I’m not thrilled with Chapek being CEO although he will be reporting to Iger until 2021 to get his knowledge up to speed. He’s missing some fundamentals although has been trying to up-skill recently.
I feel like the penny pinching we have been seeing is about to get a lot worse! He was the man behind the ‘vault’ 🙄

The interview with him on CNN sounded very false when I tuned I. On the plane Hawaii to Dallas
To me more+to it and DH and I both got the feeling more price increases less freebies for all guests
Maybe he felt he just couldn’t squeeze another dime out the returning guests

Bob Chapek was in charge of the Disney Parks and Resorts. Some people don't like the fact that, because demand keeps on rising, he has increased prices. Also, some people don't like that as a businessman in charge of a large multinational business he's more interested in making money than in magic and pixie dust. And also he's not Walt.

Those dollars aren't going to count themselves. Someone has to do it!

Often a single Disney film will make more than that amount in profits. And the Disney parks make that much in profits every 4 months or so. So, y'know, you could say he deserves that 'little' retirement fund.
