Which is why you should hold onto the receipts so they can charge you duty on what you paid not on what they believe the items are worth.

I hope nobody minds me asking, my DS will be taking his MacBook Pro with him, its immaculate and looks like new, (I would rather he didn't take it but its his decision) would it be advisable to take a copy of the receipt from the UK with him, or will the fact it's got a UK plug be enough? I will be taking my ipad with me too but that's certainly not looking anywhere near like new so that should be fine I hope.

Taking receipt would be fine, it should also have a serial number which customs can use to check where it was bought.

Ive took my macbook through no problems, a uk macbook has a different keyboard to one bought in the u.s.
