Wood burner new build price?
Hi we're thinking of going to have a look at wood burners maybe next weekend and looking for an approx amount it might cost us? We are in a new build (well 14 years old but modern house) no chimney so looking at flue going outside of house. We would need a fake chimney breast installing also. Would a company do it all? Thanks

We had exactly that situation. The log burner was the cheapest part, the expensive bits were the twin wall stainless steel chimney - which had to be really high - and the construction of a hearth etc within the narrow gas fire chimney breast. It only stuck out 6 inches but the engineers worked something with the external wall that satisfied building control so we didn't lose anything off the room.
The one company quoted and did everything including certificates, increasing the height of the chimney and adding a H pot when we had downdraught problems included in the price. They have recently ceased trading but until then they came once a year at a discounted price to maintain the log fire (seals and paint) and sweep the chimney. Edited at 07:16 PM. |

We have the wham , chimney is about 25 ft, it's in our conservatory with the chimney on the main wall, our conservatory is sort of solid if that makes sense
Think it was about £4,000 complete, a work colleague his is a small traditional one, in shape , and he was around £1500 There is a huge difference in the prices of them depending what you want / pick

Watching with interest. We would love to have a double sided stove between our kitchen and family room. It would mean cutting a hole in a load bearing wall, putting in a flue which would probably need to go up through the spare room before going through the roof.
The stove would definitely be the cheap part. I am scared to get a quote to be quite honest.

We had it fitted 4-5 years ago in the summer when they didn't have a lot of work. The whole thing was £2000 and over £1000 of that was just to buy the chimney, the rest was the log (only a small 5kw multi fuel, DEFRA approved) burner fitting the chimney and burner and constructing the space to fit it.

We have just had a new one put in the new extension. We wanted something modern and went with the Riva studio 2 on the bench in the end by Stovax (tried the Riva 3 but it looked more like a coffin). We bought it from Carvers in the end as they were the only place to have one on show (I called Stovax and they told me what model was in which showroom-very helpful)and there's a guy called Bob in the Carvers showroom (Wolverhampton) really knew his stuff and was super helpful when I decided to return the first one. I will be using them for the next one as we will need a double sided one in the kitchen (when we get that far).
You can spend varying amounts on the woodburner itself. Then ours cost 1800 to fit and for the twin wall thing which the fitter sorted out. There's no chimney in the lounge so it has to go out of the wall. There is an existing Clearview woodburner in the house from when we moved in. I think it's Dinham Hall that has a huge showroom of those. Not sure where you are in the country sorry I'm dibbing on my phone

Hope your getting on ok on your woodburner hunt. I know you said you needed a chimney but we haven't bothered with that they just cut straight through the wall, i thought I'd post a pic to show you. I wasn't sure about the plate on the wall but dh said it's non negotiable as the exterior wall needs to be a certain distance from the flue and there would be a nice draught coming though... or something along those lines... I zone out for the technical stuff I can't wait to move in now as it really chucks out some heat and it's all snuggly. We lit it for the first time today to burn off any fumes but it wasn't to bad. Ignore all the other mess on in the room, there's still lots to do
