Alamo tollpass - accurate?

Hi everyone.

We will be going to Florida for 4 weeks and driving around quite a bit, in the past i have just paid cash which i find easy enough. I am tempted by the alamo tollpass, but just wondered whether anyone had found it to be innacurate i.e. charged you for tolls you did not go through. Four weeks later I would struggle to remember dates and times etc, so just looking for some reassurance that i wont be charged for tolls I have not gone through. Many thanks

If you a visiting Orlando then you will only use the toll roads going to and from the airport in which case I pay as I go. If are driving round Miami then you will find that the tolls are cashless so you don't have any choice.

Hi and thanks. We are starting in Orlando and going over to Tampa, the Naples, probably avoid Miami, Fort lauderdale, vero beach and back to Orlando if that makes sense! Then 3 weeks around Orlando, staying in Davenport.

I've never had any issues with the Alamo system.

$3.95 per usage day up to a maximum of $19.75 for the duration of your rental, plus the tolls.

Once you've completed your rental, you can view your toll receipt at htallc/alamo/

The most that you will pay from and to the airport is about $6.00 each way. Make sure that you know your route around Ft. L the cashless extends a fair way out.

Toll passes are a rip off unless you want ultimate convenience. There are only a few roads in Florida (round by Miami) where you need the electronic one. Just pay cash at the booths. Make sure you get some quarters at the airport or deliberately ask for change at a toll both in quarters. Only the off ramps need quarters which you "throw in them"

But it's not a rip off but an optional charge. You choose to have it or not.

Personally on our £6000 holiday, $20 extra is not going to break my bank account. I use the toll roads around central Florida quite a lot...such as Osceola Parkway, ( use this regularly) and the bridges/ elevated roads around Clearwater. I'd rather be concentrating on the road than looking for the next slip to the pay booth plazas, so I choose to use it.

Now if I was staying around the parks then I may choose not to use it, as there will only be a couple tolls to or from the airport, but we are wanderers so do as above.

Others may choose not to use it, and it is their choice too.

No one is forced to take it.

After all it's only the same value as one days parking charge at Disney ( which is more of a rip off as you have to park )

Hi
It can take between 4 to 8 weeks depending on when the charges are sent to Alamo and they distribute and charge your card. If your CC Statement date is just after you return you may not see anything until the next one. That's what normally happens to us.

As I said they are a convenience in in my opinion the service charge is a rip off for them. Because that's what it is. Its a service charge the rental company get for processing something that's almost entirely electronic and automatic.

And if you do have you eyes on the roads, and driving with due care and attention, spotting toll plazas is not hard.

If you spend a lot and I mean a lot of time on toll roads, then perhaps that convenience is worth it. I have a toll pass for Texas, but I live here and actually its free to fit and use (as are most toll passes).

The toll pass system in other states I have visited, with Enterprise, is a fixed fee of $3 to register you for that toll pass for your usage of it. Much better value. Its only because its Florida that they charge so much.
