This is what we did last July (though we ended up having to call them for some reason that escapes me right now) because we knew we'd go (at least) twice within the year (as it happens, we're ending up going three times ) and wanted a 'known' price, not have to 'faff around' trying various places to see which prices they came back with, as well has having paid it all by the time we went the first time.

It could be due to the first price was with an unused ticket whereas the price at MK could be because it had been used. It was always in the past best practice to upgrade after using the ticket for the first time.

So the question is did the OP use their ticket in between getting the upgrade prices at DS and MK?

Yes I did use it... but only to get access to MK on the day I upgraded.

In my mind it doesn't make sense... surely an unused ticket is worth more therefore cheaper to upgrade?

But your right, it certainly seems like the opposite is true. I wonder how much if you upgraded on your last day... but of course you'd have shelled out a lot for parking and not got any mechandise / food discounts in the meantime. Still would be interested to know.

I was offered $567.85 to upgrade yesterday at AK, more than buying another 14 days, will try again next week, that’s the plat+ pass
