Interesting one! If flying on a UK registered plane, the minor [on arrival in the USA] would have been furnished with alcohol 100% legally during the flight as they are over 18 and on a UK aircraft. Once they step off the plane, the law changes and they are a minor under the influence.
From what I understand of the US drinking laws, the penalties are way more severe for the person who furnishes a minor with alcohol, than those for the minor for drinking it. As the in-flight alcohol was served legally on a UK plane, I'm not sure the US authorities could do a lot. Still best to stick to one or two alcoholic drinks at most, as on a circa-9hr flight, most people will be fine when they arrive in Florida. (Obviously, if you're driving in Orlando on arrival, make the after takeoff drink your only alcoholic one in the flight and you'll be OK some 7hrs later on arrival). |
