Mr and Mrs T. Our West Coast adventure May 2016 - Monday, May 23 Aquarium and Lovers Point!
Up a bit early today for some reason, we both struggled to get a decent nights sleep. Don’t know why!
Showered and dressed – jeans today as the forecast was sunny but cold. Breakfast is provided at the hotel and there is a good selection. Plan for today was a visit to the Monterey Aquarium. Slow walk down to Cannery Row and down to the aquarium. Busy with quite a queue outside. Once inside we had a wander round taking in the various exhibits. Well laid out aquarium with very knowledgeable staff, but for some reason we thought it would offer more. Could not put our finger on it. Did sit down and listen to an excellent talk on the Great White Shark. Very informative. Left with the chance to return later if we wanted to. Found a little restaurant over the road where we bought a quiche, a bear claws cake plus a caramel milkshake for Elaine and an oreo one for me. Walked past the aquarium and headed down Ocean Drive taking a nice slow walk, admiring the views. Eventually, after walking about 2 miles, we found ourselves at an area called Lovers Point. The scenery did not change, it really was so nice. The beach at Lovers Point where Elaine dipped her toes Found a bench to sit on. Nice area nearby where permenant bbq's had been installed. Lovely area to sit and eat. Picked up a drink before taking a really slow walk back, looking at the seals who were on the beach just before the aquarium. Back to the hotel where we picked up a couple of free coffees from reception before heading to our room. Elaine soaked her feet after having a paddle at Lovers Point. After a good soak we walked back to Cannery Row in search of tea and our last meal in Monterey. Plumped for Sly McFly. Good atmosphere and very good food. Picked up some chocolate and back to the room to watch a bit of TV and pack for the trip up the coast tomorrow.
