Day 9 - Gun range, shopping and touring the strip
West Coast Trip Report Index
Cast Me - Laura - 23 Planner and organiser. Loves travelling, food and having fun! DF - Kris - 24 Driver and plan follower. Loves travelling, food and having fun! Day 9 - Gun range, shopping and touring the strip This morning we were up about 7. Before leaving the hotel room I took some pictures of our "strip view" as it had been too dark when we arrived last night. We left the hotel about 9, got the car from the valet parking and headed straight to Denny's for breakfast. It was packed and we had a bit of a wait. Eventually we got seated. Kris had an American Slam and coke and I had a French Toast Slam and orange juice. I have no idea how he manages to drink coke at breakfast! The food was good but the service was horrendous. We had a 20% off coupon so the bill came to just $20 and we only left a $3 tip. From Denny's we drove to the Gun Store as Kris had wanted to visit. Kris spent a rediculous $200 shooting various guns whilst I got very bored! He loved it though and is very proud of the targets he has bought home with us. I thought it was so scary that we were surrounded by strangers with guns. Who knows what could have happened! Once the shooting was over we headed back to the strip and drove up to the Fashion Show Mall. I managed to take this photo of our hotel (the Signature) on the way. And this one of the MGM Grand. At the mall we went to Macy's, Skechers, Quicksilver (where Kris bought another t-shirt) and a gift shop (where we bought way too many souveniors!) I just loved these stairs! More pictures of hotels, taken from the mall. At one o'clock we took the car back to the hotel, valet parked again, and took the shopping up to the room. We didn't stay for long though as we didn't want to waste any time! As the Lion Habitat had been closed the night before, we walked from the Signature through the long long corridor to the MGM. The Lion Habitat was so crowded! The two lions were asleep so not very interesting, but it was nice to see them. When I first found out about them I didn't like the idea of them being in that small room all the time with nothing to do. But then I found out there are lots of lions that rotate and when they're not at the MGM they are in this lion sanctuary place that is a bit like being in the wild for them. That made me feel a bit better about it. These first two photos are taken from underneath the lions. We then made our way out of the MGM and crossed the bridge over the Strip to the New York New York. We were heading for the Mandalay Bay but thought we'd have a look around as the NYNY was on the way. Continued... Edited at 08:52 AM. |

Inside the New York New York we had a peak at the casino but nothing more; we're not really gamblers.
We were just about to head out of the NYNY... ...when we spotted an Oxygen Bar! We thought we couldn't not have a go! We had oxygen with essential oils, a back massage, a head massage, essential oils rubbed into our necks. It was fabulous! Here's me looking really silly! I can't quite remember how much we paid for this (I think probably about $20 each) but it was well worth it. We both came out feeling really chilled and refreshed. We headed over the the Excaliber and caught the free tram to the Mandalay Bay. We were heading for the Burger Bar given our lack of success at eating in the San Francisco one! We wondered aimlessly around the casino trying to figure out where it could be. I finally asked someone for directions and we were on our way! By the time we got there is was about 4pm. When we were seated I was amazed by the fact there is a TV at the table lol Just look at the excitement on my face! I'm so easily pleased. Despite the temptation to build our own burger, the "ready made" ones seemed too good to miss. Kris had the Classic American with a coke and I had the Hawaiian with a diet coke. We also had a Creamy Cheesecake Burger for pudding to share. The food here was just so delicious! We paid $50 for our meal including tip. Great value! Completely stuffed, we walked to the Luxor. I had never been interested in staying here but when we visited it was one of my favourite hotels. I loved the theming of it so much! Kris wasn't impressed though. This wedding dress (bottom left) is amazing! I don't think I'd have the guts to wear something like it though. Once outside the Luxor we decided to walk back to the MGM so we could drop our stuff off at the Signature and get changed. Here's some photos we took along the way. Back out on the Strip it was starting to get dark and I was excited about seeing Vegas all lit up at night! We went to the Grand Canyon shop just next to the MGM again and bought some more souveniors and then onto the M&M shop which we loved and we spent loads of money in. Continued... Inside the M&M shop;
Many M&Ms purchased, we headed to the Coca Cola shop, which was also very cool. We bought a few bits and when we went upstairs we decided to try some soft drinks from around the world. There were two trays with 8 drinks on each and we each had one sheet which told us what was on one tray. We had tried a few from my tray when I said to Kris that I was sure there was something similar to this in Epcot, Orlando and there was a drink called Beverley which everyone on the Dibb had said was disgusting. He casually said it must be different as we didn't have a Beverley and I believed him! Until I drank one of the drinks of his tray and thought I was going to die! It was so awful, it is indescribable! How could he do that to me! Outside the Coke shop we bought our Duece tickets from a machine. 2 tickets for 3 days cost us just $30. We hopped on the Duece and headed for the Paris hotel as we wanted to go up the Eiffel Tower. We had to wait about half an hour in the queue for the tower, but it was lovely once we got up there. You could see for miles! It was pretty chilly though. Once back on the ground we headed for the Duece again to go further up the Strip to the Venetian. I really wanted to ride a gondola! Unfortunately when we got there the outdoor ones had stopped running (due to the time of night) and the indoor ones were fully booked all night. So not fair! We had a good look around though, very nice it was! We crossed the road (over the bridge I must add, I cannot imagine why people try to actually cross over the Strip - crazy!) to get the Duece back down to the MGM. We had to walk past the Mirage and the volcano had just started so we stayed to watch. It was pretty cool but not as good as I'd thought it would be. Once back at the MGM, we walked through the really long corridor to the Signature. I had worn some silly sandals this evening and my feet were killing me! I was so tempted to take them off lol We stopped at the food court on the way, partly to rest my feet and partly because despite our big breakfast this morning and late lunch at 4 o'clock we were getting hungry. We went to "Nathan's" counter from which we both had a hotdog, Kris had a coke and I had a very tasty real lemonade. Total cost $18, bargain! We walked (well, I limped) back to the hotel at about midnight and we fell asleep about half an hour later. What a busy day! Tomorrow - Grand Canyon Edited at 09:00 AM. |
