Our 1st DVC Stay - LIVE - March 2011 - Day 4

We've worked out that it's the bed that is really not comfortable that is causing us to have such rubbish nights sleep. Even DH is not sleeping well which is very unusual! After DH's run this morning we headed over to Artist's Palette about 10.30am for breakfast (we're not normally this predictable but the lack of car is seriously limiting our choices! ) I opted for biscuits and gravy today but got the gravy separate as I like to put jam on the biscuits as to me they are sweet. The gravy was lovely though. DH stuck to the usual Oatmeal and Bagel with cream cheese.

Today was baseball day number one and we had already checked with concierge how to get to ESPN Wide World of Sports. Are you ready for this? We had to first get the Disney Hollywood Studio bus, then get the bus to either Pop Century, All Star Resorts or Carribbean Beach (whichever arrived first) and then get the bus to ESPN. Baseball started at 1.05pm so we had decided to leave by 11am to make sure we made it and all the buses slotted in and we arrived quickly at Pop Century but then had quite a wait there in the midday sun surrounded by the most annoying little flies!
Today's game was Atlanta Braves who are the home team during spring training versus St. Louis Cardinals. By the time we had picked up our tickets and got to our seat (on the 1st base line) it was about 12.50pm so we had made it in time.

Here are a few photos of the game including an ambulance coming on to the pitch (or diamond to be precise) for a member of the Atlanta Braves coaching staff who got a foul ball in the face (while he was in the dug out). The game stopped for quite a while when this happened so we figured it was quite serious - according to the local news we saw later on in the evening the guy was (by then) conscious and breathing unassisted but had been unresponsive at the ground - we'll google for more information later on.

You might recognise this 'player':

And the final board:

Other than the baseball to the face incident in the first inning the game was not very exciting and finished just before 4pm with a final score of 6-1 to St Louis. DH enjoyed it though so that was the main thing!

We were not going straight back to SSR as we had a dinner ADR at Kona Cafe in the Polynesian Resort so we had to get the bus from ESPN to Carribbean Beach then transfer to a bus to Magic Kingdom before getting the monorail from MK to the Polynesian. We arrived an hour early but checked in anyway and just had time to get a cocktail at the Polynesian bar before the buzzer went off and we were seated. My Mai Tai was served in a cool glass that was like a Tikki face - you may be able to make it out in this photo:

I'd like to let you know at this point that neither of us drink much at home (in fact DH doesn't at all really) but he discovered a love of cocktails on our Disney cruise last year so this is very unusual for us and will stop once we pick up the car

Dinner in Kona was lovely - DH ordered Teriyaki New York Strip Steak and I ordered Asian Noodles with Chicken and we shared both meals - both were lovely. Dessert was Pineapple Cake for me and Banana Chocolate Creme Brulee for DH which again were both very good. Another recommended resturant!

As we headed out of the Poylnesian Hotel to get back on the monorail we were greeted by some seriously heavy rain, thunder and lightning. We pulled into the monorail station at MK and there were that many people there it looked just like closing time! Within seconds of leaving the station we were absolutely drenched and some parts of the walkway were under a couple of inches of water! By the time we got to the bus queue a couple of minutes later we could literally wring water out of our clothes but at least it was still warm and lets be honest I'd rather be wet in Florida than warm at home

We waited about 40 minutes for a bus by which time the rain had eased but the thunder and lightning continued and tbh we just wanted to get back to the resort. By then time we did arrive back it had been an hour and a half since we left Kona - thank goodness tomorrow is the day we are picking up the car.

You do seem a bit unlucky with the buses, 40 mins to wait is long. Good day though.

I think your report up to this point illustrates superbly why I would never go without a hire car. I like to get where I'm going rather than be standing around waiting for buses. Apart from that it sounds like you had a great time.

Have to say with regards to the disney transport discussion, I'd never hire a car ever. I drive enough for my business and pleasure at home, so when it comes to holidays at my dream destination, I just want to relax. Have never had to wait long personally on my previous trips, though admittedly I travel out of school hols.

Am enjoying reading all about your trip. There's no where like it in the world as far as im concerned. People often ask me why I keep going back to the same place, my answer is always the same, "go there yourself and you'll see!"
