Celebrating My 40th In Dubai Trip Report - Day 0

Saturday 23rd April (Day 0):
We left home about 2.00PM and dropped the children off at their various locations (that was a separate itinerary in itself working out who the kids were staying with on what days, etc!)

We arrived at a deserted Norwich airport for our 5.15PM flight shortly after 3, the check in desk (yes that’s 1 check in desk) was not even open yet. So we waited around with the dozen or so other people. Shortly after, the desk opened and we were checked in without any problems and went through to the departure area, after passing through security (again a 1 man operation!).

In the departure area nothing was yet open. But shortly after 2 staff appeared and one lady was running the bar and coffee shop and the other gentleman opened the duty free shop!

Norwich really is that sort of airport!

The KLM city hopper flight was on time, very short (55 minutes) and uneventful. We were soon landing in Schiphol to transfer to the big boy flight!

We had 2.5 hours to kill in Schiphol, so after we had checked in for our onward leg of our journey – using the self service terminals (which were easy and simple to use) we had something to eat and drink and then made our way to our departure gate.

This flight again left on time (9.40PM) and we had an overnight flight to Dubai. During the 6.5 hour flight we were fed twice (a late tea and a breakfast snack), watched some of the excellent IFE and snoozed a bit.

All in all, I would definitely recommend KLM as the planes were clean and modern with very good IFE, the staff were friendly and efficient and the service was very punctual.
