NY to LA - Day 7 - Scottsdale
3rd September
I woke up at 6:30am and couldn't get back to sleep so I made a coffee and went and sat out on the balcony to read my book. What a view! I wish I'd taken my camera out there now. A hot air balloon was just hovering near the mountains. It just seemed to stay there for ages. When everyone got up we went down to the pool and lazy river again and just chilled out until lunchtime. There was only one other family there. We left at about 12:30 and went to the Fashion Square Mall in Scottsdale as I think I was owed some shopping time as I'd been so restrained in New York! A fake D&G bag from a looky looky man doesn't count! The shopping mall was quite big. The food court had a really good choice and again I opted for Chinese. I bought a few things for the kids - including new shoes for DS - but I could tell though that DF was getting a bit bored ... He only falls asleep outside classy shops as you may see later! We went outside the mall to catch the free trolleybus to Old Town. It was like walking into an oven! Luckily the bus came quickly and the windows were all open. Scottsdale Old town is like a cowboy/Mexican town. There is memorabilia on walls about old cowboys - my dad loved it here. One shop we went into was called Del Sol. Everything in the shop - including the carrier bags changed colour in the sunlight. DD bought some nail varnish but after 1 go decided to give it to DMIL! Then I spotted a bar called the Rusty Spur Saloon that I'd read about on Trip Advisor. I was just with DM and the kids as DF and DH were in some other shop. We could hear someone playing guitar and singing so we went it. The place was tiny! DM doesn't drink - but we both fancied an ice cold Bud as it was so lovely to get out of the heat. Waiting for the bus We got the free trolley back to the mall and headed back to the hotel as we wanted to go to watch the poolside movie which was supposed to be Princess and the Frog. The sunsets here are amazing: This is from our balcony We got to the pool and the film turned out to be Yours, Mine and Ours which was a bit disappointing! We hoped to get food at the pool bar but they stopped serving food at 6:30 as it was out of season so we got a couple of muffins from the Starbucks in the hotel and ate those instead. After Labour Day they were stopping the pool movies and having Drive in movies where you sat in a golf buggy with popcorn and drinks! Packed up the bags ready for moving to the Grand Canyon the next day and then bed.

I think it was about 20 mins - just down the highway - really easy to find.
