I’ve just been on ours , all booked and paid for by us . We used to do a meal on mad Friday but we are all too old for that now and wouldn’t last the session after the meal .

Times have changed... working for private companies in the 80s and early 90s the do's were always a proper thank you. My favourites were my ex husband's always at a top notch west end venue, meal, unlimited drinks, gifts for both employee and partner and a black cab home (about 20 miles) on the company account. The directors would stay for the meal then leave, opening a tab for the rest of the evening before they left and urging everyone to enjoy as it their gift.
Ahhh those were the days, this year it'll be a £10 love to shop voucher if we are lucky Edited at 10:48 AM. |

When it comes to work parties we get well looked after! We have a Christmas party each year paid for by the boss and he hosts a party at his home for all staff in the summer.

Surely if you paid for everything yourselves, you could drink what you chose. No one could dictate what your drank in your own time!

Mmm, my mates and I would have been at the bar. The organisation could suggest what they want, where's the wine.

We’re clearly very lucky. FTSE 250 emerging on FTSE 100. We have two “dos” paid for each Xmas plus at least one other recognition event throughout the year.
First Xmas do is for our whole office (London has a separate one). Black tie, meal, drinks and music. This year we had a set from a famous DJ. Doesn’t cost us a penny (well taxi and hotel if you want/need). Our departmental one varies; the last two years we have done cocktail making masterclasses which were great fun. Usually nibbles thrown in too. Again all paid for. This year we went on for some food at a place where they sell various street foods (think Food and Drinks Festival). We paid for the food ourselves. Our regonition events have varied too. But again all paid for by the company. This year it was the races with restaurant and drinks. Mind you, this is same employer where we get a free lunch every day. Three hot choices, salad counter, cold cuts and quiches, soups and 2/3 puddings every day.

We usually go to local holiday Inn for an all inclusive party night which would've been tomorrow but we've done it a few years now and I think people were getting a bit bored of it. Different sections have sorted out different dos of their own, we are off for a Chinese buffet next weekend, it's my birthday too so double celebration, we pay for our own dos, it's a weird setup where I work I'm a concession in a big store, our own department get drinks and choccies sent from the owners of our company and a lovely bonus, the store as a whole give us a gift voucher and a bacon butty if you work Xmas eve or new years day lol
