Yes you do need to have a membership card to use the fuel pumps.

Yes, you have to scan it at the pump. Its quite a bit cheaper than the supermarkets so probably worth the cost of the card over the year when you live close.

I'm not sure you've thought that through really...

People may have bought more over the last week or so, but they'll not be buying more over the next week or so, as many people now have full-ish tanks.

Beyond that, some people will have adjusted their behaviours to drive less in order to conserve fuel. I know we shelved plans for a long-ish drive, and know plenty of others doing likewise.

If people drive less, ultimately they buy less fuel.
