Have to say I done all 4 of ours last night and felt so paranoid about getting them all done correctly, triple checking all the information, putting in middle names, paying etc. It took 2 hours and finished at 11pm then logged out once paid and logged back in and website said applications were pending, but then first this morning (approx 0630) before I had even put the kettle on I logged back in and all 4 ESTA's had been authorised, so we are good to go.
Just take your time and complete all necessary fields correctly and all will be fine. Although was surprised to see the section about adding social media platforms/names etc etc. Have to say this was optional, so left it out, as don't see the relevance. Now just to sort the park tickets ... |

Once your ESTA has been approved and you are on the plane it has served its purpose ie the right to travel to the USA.
You still have to go through immigration etc and the lack of a middle name on an ESTA could just cause a delay if you are unlucky (EG Your name is John Smith and they have that name down as someone who shouldn't be allowed entry. The confirmation of a middle name would make these checks easier but the lack of it could cause you delay until they check further to confirm if you are the John Smith who shouldn't be allowed entry.) There has never been a requirement to update the address. It will recorded on your API. The general feeling with the ESTA is when approved leave it alone.

Hi Dozy, I'm with Chair, leave your ESTA(s) well alone, immigration take necessary info from the API you present your airline. Afore we had B2 visa I never completed non compulsory areas, flight and accommodation info was never completed.

Renewed our ESTAS today, all middle names inputted as all middle names show on our passports where the chevrons are. Said pending at first but logged back in 15 mins later and all we authorised. Just need to pay for the holiday now haha!

Arrrghhh, just filled out or ESTA's for travel 22nd July and have previously done them in 2013 and 2016 and then came on here and noticed this about middle names. Where it just said Family and First given name I entered just that, the first given name of each person. Only did it 15 minutes ago and still stays authorisation pending. Should I just hold fire and hope if gets authorised fine and don't worry about it or will I get trouble when we get there?

The challenge isn't whether they are approved now it's whether they match passport and API on entry.
It's upto you whether you redo or not. If me I would redo annoying and extra cash but in comparison to the holiday cost it's small beer. Wait until authorised though first. |

Crazy why you can't contact anyone and just ask to edit the names rather than doing the whole thing again and paying twice. Surely the field should say 'First and Middle Names' not 'First Given Name' as reading the word first I just put the first name!
I did it as a group application but I don't have a middle name though so would I just be able to do the wife and two kids again as mine should be spot on. If so best to do them individually or as another group of 3? |

woz, did you miss the 'sample pp' diagram next to the name question that explains name requirements? It seems many applying haven't seen/read the diagram and therefore don't add names as per pp. As others mention it may help if the US changed name to name(s).
