DD and I love DLP, DH went once in 1998 and has never wanted to go back. We've been for 10 trips often with sister, nieces, sis in law etc and we even took my mum twice - she was amazed
We haven't been for the past 3 years though, so I can't comment on what it's like currently.

we went in December last year and asked for connecting rooms, there were just 4 of us and we would have fit in one room but I wanted to make sure my grandaughter was able to sleep and not distracted by the adults so I booked a room for my daughter and granddaughter and i had a room with my other adult daughter. we had the door open all the time except for my granddaughters sleep time. I would say the rooms were definitely big enough to fit 3 each in, my 3 year old granddaughter. had a huge double bed to herself. We stayed in Sequoia Lodge if this helps.

There are options other than flying or Eurostar. Some Dibbers have done the Hull-Zeebrugge ferry for instance.

I can go to DLP for a fraction of the cost of going to Florida. I can never understand it when people say they could go to Florida for the same price.

We did Florida before DLP but still love both, although DLP is smaller it is much more affordable. We tend to stay in a partner hotel and have had an annual pass for the last couple of years. This makes the cost more worthwhile as the partner hotels are often £250 per person for 5 nights including flights
I will say that the last time we went several of the rides in the studios park had shut which is a real shame. Once the new parts of this park open DLP will be much more of a destination but it doesn't stop us going back! We are flying out on 1st September with my family (they are Disney park newbies), i cannot wait especially with the lion king festival and food stalls in the studios park! Florida is my preferred destination but it is much more expensive, if they cost the same I would always choose Orlando

We’ve done all the western Disney parks and love the American ones but we’ve no real desire to revisit Paris.
It just didn’t really do it for us, the castle is stunning and we did have a good time but the smoking was really off putting, at one point could smell weed during a parade. |

Myself and my DW first went way back in 2000 and had a magical day trip on the 25th December. Loved it, apart from being full of cold.
We have since been back a handful of times. The last 2 times we went were on our DVC points staying at NPB and SL for 4 nights. Sept 2011 and Sept 2012. Both times were thoroughly enjoyable. Weather was poles apart though, 2011 - like Florida, 2012 - like the South Pole! This thread is full of polarised opinions - which is good to see as everybody has different opinions. It appears DLP is very "marmite". At the end of the day, its on mainland Europe and we all know (or at least have an idea of) what many European residents can be like. And for me, this is what I expect of a minority of the DLP guests. There tends to be an obvious lack of adherence to rules (based on last visit) regarding smoking and pool/jacuzzi etiquette for example. There are only little things like this which annoy me, however I know what I am expecting when I get there so it bugs me less than it did the first couple of visits. There are, of course similar issues and annoyances in WDW (South American tour groups!). I love WDW for the weather and the amount of variation in parks to visit and things to do. I love DLP for it's compactness, location and time it takes to get there. But it's still Disney and with the Studio's expansion it will only get better. Also, as a few people have mentioned trying a bit of dodgy O'level/GCSE French goes a long way in terms of interaction with cast members and in food outlets. We got great service in Annette's one year simply because they couldn't help but laugh at my amazing French... i've improved since... !

Sometimes when looking price like for like hotel wise I can see how people say cost the same but actually breaking it down no. DLP park tickets are included in with the hotel, meal plans can be used almost every where and different categories for part payment. Tax included and don't always have to tip so personally for me alone that's saves a hell of a lot of money. Travel costs us usually around £500 for 9 people as opposed to £650 per person per flight. That is return tunnel and fuel. A stop over is usually £30 a night at Travelodge if we want to do it.
It also depends on time if year you go. We can only go school holiday time. |
