Has anyone compared Car Hire to Ubers?
Hi,
With the car hire costs being astronomical at the moment, together with the daily theme park parking charges... has anyone been on a 2 week holiday (Off site) thinking of Lake Buena Vista actually and used Ubers for 2 weeks. I know it would be difficult to come up with an exact price, but looking for a guestimate of going to the theme parks each day and maybe out to a restaurant each night, with a couple of shopping trips to Mall of Millenia thrown in. I will also need to factor in the cost from Airport to Lake Buena vista. Thanks in advance for any info on this...

Using the Uber calculator the average works out at around $45 to and from Disney depending on the exact location of the hotel /park and around the $40 to /from most restaurants
So an average of $85 a day if you go back out at night to eat etc Hope that helps |

Pretty similar costs, with car hire so high Lyft/Uber probably wins especially if you plan to eat dinner at Disney or at your hotel some nights (half the time I’m too knackered to go out again) .
Pros are no needing a designated driver if everyone enjoys a few drinks with dinner , with the exception of MK pick up and drop off are at the gates so no trekking across car parks , no losing your car in the car park (that one might just be me) , supporting the local economy and no $30 a day to park so using Gryff’s $80 ish a day for two round trips than means the nett cost is $50 a day to compare with daily hire cost , tolls, gas (and any other parking.). If you tend to go to a park , stay all day, have dinner there and then head back to the hotel it’d obviously be cheaper still. We never have a car when in Orlando itself for parks as the saving on park parking covers most of our Lyft bill. We plan trips beyond Orlando at the end of our stay if we are moving elsewhere after or if not have a car for BG, Mount Dora, KSC etc etc for 3 or 4 days only in the middle. Airport to LBV approx $40 This calculator might be useful lyft/rider/fare-estimate Edited at 01:42 PM. |

We used Ubers for two trips and it worked out cheaper than car hire and park parking.
Factored in parking cost, hire costs, fuel and of course Ubers cost plus tips and it was 40 to 50% cheaper to use Uber. We stay on I-Drive and go to Disney and Universal. Looks like the cost of Ubers has gone up a lot recently, but so has car hire, park parking and fuel. We hired a car for a couple of days for trips further away like Mt Dora and the beaches. Use the Uber estimator and you should be able to work out to costs. Added bonus is I could have a cheeky drink in the parks.

We also used Uber rather than car hire and it worked out more cost effective and worked perfectly for us.

Has Uber gone up in price a lot? Our last trip in 2017, we used it almost daily and most trips were $10/12 each day to Disney from I drive (doubletree by Hilton sea world)

I have read that the prices have gone up a lot because lots of Uber and Lyfft drivers got other jobs while demand for their services was low, so there is now a shortage.
I would expect more drivers to return once tourism picks up though, so prices may fall.

Tangent - make sure you check whether your hotel has resort fees. A lot of the LBV ones seem to charge $35 a night. Just something to include in your budget.
Also, if you are near LBV could you end your day with a Disney bus to Disney Springs, and either walk or Uber from there? You could eat there too. Edited at 07:02 AM. |
