We’re in Flintshire North Wales
We have a black bin for general waste a brown bin for garden waste a plastic box which I think should be grey but ours broke and after weeks of asking for a new one we just started using one of our own a grey bag for plastic and cans a blue bag for paper and cardboard a small grey bin for food waste which is under the sink which we then have to transfer to another grey bigger bin for collection. The recycling is collected every Tuesday and the general waste and gardening are collected on alternating Tuesdays. We pay I think £32 a year to have our garden waste collected. Edited at 05:09 AM. |

We're in Chelmsford, Essex. All our recycling has to be split, and is collected separately...
*Black wheelie bin for general waste *Brown wheelie bin for garden waste *Green box for tins and glass (I think we can put textiles and electrical items in here too, as well as aerosols and coffee pods) *Caddy for food waste *Clear bags for plastic waste including tetra pacs *White sack for paper *Different white sack for cardboard We have a weekly collection but it's on a 2 week cycle. I have no idea which gets collected when, but my husband does an admirable job of organising it! Food caddy gets collected weekly. |

North Yorkshire. 4 Wheelie Bins.
Black for general waste including food collected fortnightly. Green for garden waste collected fortnightly. Blue for Glass, cans and plastic collected monthly. Green for paper and cardboard collected monthly. Apart from storage issues I do think wheelie bins are better. When we lived in Chelmsford the boxes and sacks used for recycling used to result in them and the refuse blowing everywhere on windy days. We anchored ours with a brick but the bin men never replaced them. It reminded me of the wreckage left after festival fans had departed.

I am in Gloucestershire.
Black bin for general rubbish White sack for plastic and tins Blue sack for cardboard and none will be taken even if folded next to it so you have a job and a half tearing large boxes up. Black box for paper Black box for glass. Will not take if in same box...so when I only had one bottle and thought I would put it on top of the paper to save me putting 2 boxes out they ignored the whole lot). Green bin for garden waste. You can also put out clothes, small electrical and batteries in bags. All these are fortnightly Black food bin is collected weekly. |

For those of you with all these different types of bags, boxes and caddies - do you get a different bin wagon for each of them ? Or does the bin wagon have different compartments they throw the contents into ?
Also I see no one else so far has the same 3 week cycle on general waste as we do . We must save the Council a fortune by having that which I guess is potentially why we don’t have to pay for our garden waste bin .

Keep it simple here in South Hampshire, two bins recycling & general.waste. Collected.alternate fortnightly. Booking for tip using car reg - allowed one visit per week. Glass has to be taken to another location usually supermarket car park. Our local tip no longer has glass bins. Question are we just being trained to sort rubbish? Do they actually recylce it or send it overseas to be processed?
