A farewell to Isabel

Following on from Buryboy’s post about his first post lockdown trip, I thought I’d share some of my photos from our weekend in Rhosneigr.

Rhosneigr has many, many happy memories for our family - I’ve visited since a child when my uncle was based at RAF Valley, and when my girls were young, we had a caravan in Caernarfon and would visit the little bay (Crygill bay) which is just after the village, a couple of times a week, throughout the summer holidays. In more recent years we’ve visited the village at least 2 or 3 times a year as a big group of 12.

For these memories and Izzy’s love of the outdoors we decided this was where we should scatter her ashes. After 2 failed attempts, COVID finally allowed us to do this on Saturday. Our bubble of 6 headed over to the island on Friday, and on Saturday our best friends and Izzy’s godparents drove over to join us.

We met at the cove where we’ve enjoyed so many happy days. It was empty as evening arrived. The sun shone down and the sea was calm and still. We each spread some of her ashes into the sea, and flowers she had liked.

My friend had made Izzy stones and each of us scrambled over rocks to place them in rock pools for others to find and hopefully treasure in the days and weeks ahead.

As much as such a sad occasion can be, it was perfect. It really felt like Izzy was smiling down on us.

Yes. We did break the rule of 6. But we were outside, all vaccinated or tested negative. And to be honest, Isabel was worth it.

It was so peaceful and beautiful.
