Answer from DVC as to whether UK bookings cancelled less than 30 days out will go into holding.
After reports that DVC won’t enforce holding for UK guests who can’t travel due to border restrictions and who cancel less than 30 days out, I thought I’d check.
Answer: “As of May 1, 2021, we have returned to our normal cancellation policy. It states if you cancel a reservation 30 days or less prior to your arrival date, the Vacation Points will be returned to your account as Holding Vacation Points. Since you are an International Member, we can look at the possibility of taking them out of Holding as long as you are unable to travel due to the borders being closed. You will have to contact Member Services to see if this is possible once you have cancelled your reservation.” So possible, but not guaranteed. Would you take the risk? Not sure I would. I wish DVC would give some definite clarity for oversees visitors but on the other hand I know they are not obliged to do anything, so uncharacteristically I don’t think it warrants a moan back.

Thanks for posting. We need to make a decision by end of the month for our points fir our Sept holiday. Just have no idea on the best course of action. We hadn’t been since 2018 so have hundreds of points now in RCI and will have more to bank in the hope of going next year. All a bit crazy!

Thanks for the update. We have until mid July for our 30 day cut off. If we can’t go then we’ve got to sort out points from the potential December trip, so the expiring banked points can be rented out.

Thanks for the update, we will need to decide July 9th for our booking in August. I'm hoping that we will know by then at least whether it is going to go ahead or not.

If we cancel Sept we would have to go before May31st, alternative is to try to rent out those 250 points as they are already from Holiday No.1

We travel in 44 days so have just 2 weeks (4th July), to find out if the borders will be open. I can see us cancelling at 30 days and then being told we can travel after all

For us we could be the same, but Mrs YT thinks the next announcement will be 28 June which will be 2 days before the 30 day holding deadline for us.

I’m cancelling on a rolling basis to avoid the 30 days just to be safe.
I have a lot of 2019 points which I will take the banking extension on (apparently only good to end May 2022), but here’s the rub, you can’t use (make a booking) those extended points until your new use year starts, so for me December. Agent suggested I use my 2020 points for the March booking I want to use the 2019 points, it then I pointed out I’m intending on using those and my 2021 points in august for a booking for July 2022. Effectively I’m blocked from using my 2019 points until December and then I have to use them by end May. Waiting for a supervisor to call me.

Thanks YT. It would be so lovely to have some certainty about travelling, or what DVC would definitely do if we can’t travel! At present I’m being determinedly optimistic, for mid Aug. No rationale for optimism, but I’m clinging to it anyway.
I think my plan is keep fingers crossed to travel, keep fingers crossed as a back up that MS let us do something special with the points (2020 banked so perhaps will need to be very special). Problem is if we need to cancel to get MS to help, then I’ve lost the option of renting out our reservations (which are all 4-5 nights) which I might have been able to do given there’s so little availability... and would have probably at least covered dues. Oh well, sitting here with fingers crossed!
