Yes, the parks were busy, strangely I found that the Saturday was less busy! Maybe it's a holiday changeover day. Hope you had a great time though

Me and DS did. Not too sure about DH though. I'm hoping to go back in December 2014 for my 50th birthday.

Top4 - do you have proof of your son's disability. They will ask for it.
We have always been given the GAC, but they changed the way they are given out and used. Still, we were given the disabled priority card earlier this month and it worked the same for us as on all previous trips. The longest wait we had was around 15-20 mins but there were a lot of disabled guests in the queue that day.

OP - glad you had a good time. We also thought that Thursday the week before became a lot busier than the Monday to Wednesday.

Firstly, the DLA letter is no longer accepted. The GP letter must be dated within 3 months of your visit.

There are 2 different access cards - the disabled priority card which gives the disabled person plus their helpers priority access to the rides (via the exit).
The CM will put how many helpers are allowed on the card (with families with children it will often be the whole family).
This card is for both parks, there used to be a separate one issued for each park.

The other is an easy access card, this allows the person and helper easier access, but does not give priority access. These are issued to those suffering from temporary illnesses and expectant mothers. Only 1 helper is allowed.

Top4 - if you are staying onsite, EMH will help. At 8am the park is deserted! Most Fantasyland rides and some Discoveryland rides are open and it will be easier doing these as walk-ons

Also I would advise a character meal or meeting characters in one of the hotels (you don't have to be staying there). Much less crowded.

We got back last week and have to agree that the weather was perfect! Also Newport Bay was great and the out door pool was lovely . This year I found the parks to be so busy and while waiting in line for TM a number of German people pushed right passed us knocking my daughter over! In fact people pushing in happened a lot really can't understand some people:angry:

Yes, EMH are good for being able to walk around the park with less crowds, but when those gates open at 10am it can be a bit bewildering for a child with ASD if they get caught up in the crowds who literally run in various directions.
top4 - it may be a good idea to be away from Main St and the Plaza areas around that time.

With the disabled priority card you can also get priority access to the characters. Just make yourself known to the CM accompanying the character.

Something else I forgot to add - for parades and Dreams there is also a priority viewing area, however this is only for the card holder and 1 helper.

As for rides there is only 1 that people with ASD (at DLP this comes under mentally impaired) can not ride, and that is Toy Soldiers Parachute Drop in the Studios. RC Racer now allows this group to ride.

Yes, usually we are done with EMH by 9.45 and we go to be near the front of the queue for a ride that's about to open.

For us that is usually IASW (my fave!) and we usually ride it twice with no queue at that time.

We used this strategy with our friends who have a son with a similar condition, and it worked well.

Our biggest mistake with him was doing Peter Pan first. We worked out later that he likes rides to be 'in the open' so he can see what happens.

He did grow to love POTC though!
