Argh! Credit card companies!

When I paid my deposits to Stan and Randy for photography/videography I had no end of problems with my card provider being overzealous in security - blocking every single blooming transaction in $!

So... about 6 months later I'm ready to pay everyone, so email Stan and Randy asking them to take payment off the same card. Randy comes back and says card declined. Gareth phones the CC company and has a fit. I asked Randy to try again. We then realise that due to UNDERzealous security on CC companies part, we had fraudulent activity on our account some months later and they replaced the card a while ago.

No wonder the payments didn't go through. I've emailed Randy and explained, and also Stan - they must think I am bonkers!

Hayley, I hear about this problem so often and I know CC co's won't unblock foreign transactions altogether

I therefore think you have 2 options:

1. pay by a pre-pay credit card e.g. fairfx - no protection of course but avoids problems
2. when you are ready to make another 'batch' of payments, call your CC co', tell them you're going to US for holiday, and that should avoid the problem

HTH! xx

I have never had a problem thankfully. Makes you wonder why banks bother asking for tel no for your file if they never think to call to make sure . Beggars belief as well that you go out of your way to tell them and it still makes no difference.

I have had my credit card cut off twice - once I was in Toronto and once in France (I'm an American). Fortunately I was able to get it reinstated but now I am always careful to call when I leave the country.

This is one reason why I ask clients to use Paypal for payment as it avoids any problems. Most people use Paypal so it isn't typically a problem to go this route. I would ask your planner/vendor if they use it if you (meaning anyone reading this) struggle.
