Ordering steak/burgers well done
I know it sounds daft to ask but for those who only eat well done beef, have you ever had an issue when doing so?
The first time we went to FL, (me and DH were only 19) we had a burger at our hotel, two bites in and i realised the middle was still red, totally out me off the meal and burgers/steak for the rest of our trip. Our next trip i asked for a well done burger and i had the look " are you insane, your ruining the burger" Since then i pretty much eat chicken everywhere lol Now i really want to go to Longhorns and Cowfish on our next trip thanks to all you lovely Dibbers recommendations but i'm a bit of a nervous person and im put off as i don't wont to look like a moron in front of the steak/burger snobs Plus this was reinforced after reading someones trippie (sorry i cant remember who's) where this happened to them. |

Whenever I've ordered a burger or steak I've been asked how I want it cooked. Never been a problem

Just ignore any snobbery. I understand why some people want to eat well done, me and DW used to but both gone down to mediums now.
We haven't been on our trip yet but I'd say you're paying so they'll cook it how you want |

I will never forget going into a "posh" restaurant in Orlando with my Step-Father, he asked for beer. The waiter looked down is nose and said really? Father was livid and explained he was ordering eating and paying so didn't need a lecture in what is "U" and "non U" as it was called in those days. He got his beer and an apology from an obviously senior server. So ask for what you want, to hell with what they think.

My steak is always ordered medium rare but a burger is made with minced meat and I'm always a bit more wary of what bits have been minced so it's always ordered well done. Never had any funny looks... that I've noticed anyway

Absolutely no problem at all in asking for steaks exactly how you want them. In the likes of Longhorn, where we visit three or four times every holiday, you will certainly not experience any patronising comments as you suggest.

My daughter always orders her burgers well done. When it comes she cuts in half and if there's any trace of pink (not very often) she sends it back.
Longhorn is our favorite restaurant and we go every week, here in St Augustine when they bring you the food they ask you to cut it and make sure it's how you like it. Never a problem if it not exactly right. |

If you have a good server they would understand and deliver what you request. Some Americans don't grasp the concept of taking meat beyond medium (the French would baulk at that). Explain your needs and a good restaurant will comply. If not then send it back.
from the above posts it seems Longhorns is the place to go. Edited at 08:18 PM. |

I always ask for well done.
DH rolls his eyes at me and tells me I'm not getting the meat at its tastiest... But I like well done and will always order well done not bothered what others think! I've been known to send it back if it's not cremated enough! |
