Entrees Main Course?
How did America get to turn Entrees into a main course rather than a starter course as the word suggests and the rest of the world uses, is this a recent thing?

I get that but it would be easier to simply call them starters mains and desserts, especially as the “ main” no longer has accompaniments of vegetables in WDW and “ side dishes “ are an up charge for something you should be eating alongside your meats to give you a balanced meal. My thinking is they should charge for any starch based “ side dish” including bread. I’m probably not going to please many with this idea I know you are on vacation and you should be able to choose any meal you fancy however the DDP is very limited these days. Tbh I think it should be a personal choice to whether you can get veggies or a dessert included. I had to cook many meal services that were over several courses whilst in college. It wasn’t easy to get the timing spot on and I can agree there were far too many courses for modern dining needs. It’s also time they modernised the way the Americans phrase the meal options too not just by course but time of day also.

Rather like the tipping culture, America is not going to change the way it says or does things, just because it doesn't make sense. And we don't either. There are lots of British customs and sayings that make no sense when you think about them.
As for time of day, do you mean lunch/dinner? That's a really tricky one in the UK as it depends where you live. Do you eat lunch or dinner in the middle of the day, and do you have tea, dinner or supper in the evening? It's a minefield.

live with the culture of the country you visit, at least the OP has done some Due Diligence!
If you are on the DDP the server should make it clear the sections you can and can't order from, but the starter will be an appetizer or app and the main an Entree. If you call dessert a pudding they will love you and call you a posh Brit :-)

BTW, I've seen it explained as follows: An entrée isn't referring to the initial or starting course but instead refers to the course that makes an entrance. It was the course that entered the room with a fanfare and a flourish, the main event (as it were) and that's why it's referred to as the "entrance" (or "entrée" in french).
