hand luggage size

recently we flew with easyJet and purchased 2 flight bags to meet the specs 56x45x25cm

looking on tui website it states their hand luggage size is 55x40x20cm

are our original hand luggage case ok if we don't fill them to capacity or will they get rejected

as we are not taken suitcases I suppose we could always take a smaller bag to fit any items we take on the plane and put hand luggage in the hold

If your hand luggage is soft-sided enough to squash down after packing and fit inside a sizer of the Tui dimensions, you should be fine. If not, it will come down to how much Tui enforces size (and possibly weight), I don’t have experience of that.

I've not had TUI check hand luggage ever but then they might be more thorough if you've got no checked bags.

The problem with taking a bag which is over the size limit is that if everyone does it there won't be enough room for everyones bags in the overhead lockers.

You will be OK provided they squash down to the TUI size in order to fit in the gauge if they ask you to prove it !

Unfortunately every airline seems to have different sizes !

I think Iread in a previous thread about Tui and hand luggage that they were quite strict about hand baggage size at Sanford on the return journey.

But if Tui say their allowable size is 55x40x20 and your case is 56x45x25 then they are within their rights to refuse it on board unless you are lucky with who checks you in.

I’m pretty sure I’ve read that the only real flexibility most airlines have with variance in carry on size is that the total dimensions must not exceed.
So if the bag was longer in width than height as long as the total didn’t exceed - in this instance 115cm - then that would be allowed.

Our hand baggage was checked for size and weight at Sanford this May. (TUI to GLA)

Best to have bags that conform to save any possible problems. You may get thro with your bags, or they may put it in the hold and charge you for the privilege. It could go either way.

This is a real minefield as we discovered when we booked a last-minute trip to Orlando for the February half-term and decided to go hand luggage only.

We were flying with American and found their dimensions were slightly different to many of the cases available on the market. In the end we found some that were within their dimensions, but I'm fully expecting that the next time we take a similar trip that our small cases could be too big.

It's pretty poor form from the airline industry to have not agreed on a uniform standard size - it would be better for everyone concerned.

That's usually hold baggage though. Hand luggage size is usually dependent on the size of the overhead lockers and is usually non negotiable.
