Mobile Iceland road trip day 4 - Northwest iceland

Last night I thought that the roof was going to blow off our cabin. The wind howled all night long and even blew the door partly open at one point. I could empathise with the 3 little pigs! This morning, it was a little calmer. After a leisurely breakfast, we packed up the car and set off on the road to the North West of the island. This was a driving day mostly.

Our first stop was near Bifrost and was a little waterfall and pretty little fairy pond. The waterfall was called Glanni and the pool was Paradisarlaut - paradise view.

We saw ptarmigans here - they were changing colour from brown to white.
When we got back to the car it was lunch time so we had our picnic of polar bread, noodle cup and coffee here.
Back on the road we then drove on arriving at road 711 - the Vatnsnes peninsula around an hour later.
Our first stop here was Hvitserkur a rock formation out in the sea that was said to be a troll caught in the sun and turned to stone.

The views were lovely but it was bitterly cold in the wind.

We carried on around admiring the views and we stopped to look at some Icelandic horses.

They were so friendly- another car pulled up and they went straight over. They started licking the salt off the cars we think!

Back in the car, there were lots of seal spotting places, but no sign of seals.
Back on the main road we carried on to Laugarbakki. Our hotel looked like a prison camp on a remote hill - ( I think it used to be a boarding school) - but was actually really nice.

We could have eaten at the hotel but we opted to go to a restaurant in Hvammstangi called Sjavarborg as it had good reviews. Si phoned up to book for 6.30.

The restaurant was above the seal museum and was really nice. We had a window seat and the sunset was pretty.

We both had a surf and turf burger which was a burger with tempura lobster. It was absolutely delicious. It cost £44 for the burgers and a beer and it was worth every penny!
